How to ask for testimonials, with templates you can copy
Ask for a testimonial right after a clear win, make it take under a minute, ask one specific question and send a single polite reminder. Give people a link rather than a blank email, and tell them where the words will appear.

When to ask
The best moment is right after something went well: a project delivered, a problem solved, or a kind message from the client. Waiting weeks lets the enthusiasm fade.
How to make it easy
A blank 'could you write a testimonial?' feels like homework. Send one link to a short form with a star rating and a few lines, and give one concrete prompt such as 'What was the biggest change since we started?'
Template 1: after a delivered project
Subject: Quick favour? Hi [Name], I'm glad [the project] went well. If you have a minute, could you tell me in a couple of sentences what changed for you since we started? Here is a short form: [link]. I would like to share it on my website, and I will only publish it if you are happy with it. Thank you.
Template 2: after a kind message
Subject: Can I quote you? Hi [Name], thank you for your kind note. Would it be alright if I shared it as a testimonial on my website? If you prefer, you can leave it in this short form instead: [link].
Template 3: a gentle reminder
Subject: Re: Quick favour? Hi [Name], just a nudge in case this got buried. It takes under a minute: [link]. No worries at all if you are too busy.
What to do with the answers
Keep them as written, ask permission before publishing anything that came from a private message, and show who said it. Approve only the ones you are comfortable standing behind.
